On the 25th of February 2016, Explore Learning came and ran two sessions in school, with Year 4 and Year 6.
This Roman themed workshop saw the children become chief cook to the Emperor. As they faced the challenge of making a last minute banquet at the Colosseum the children needed their best mathematical skills.
Introducing the concept of Roman Numerals and why numbers have evolved over time, this workshop offered enrichment to the history curriculum and put Roman Numerals into a practical context.
The children investigated measurement and time and money as they completed the tasks of a slave, tackling some tricky mathematical concepts and the understanding the reality of life at that time.
This workshop allowed the children to investigate measurement as they became packaging designers for the latest Xbox - the Xplore Box. Focusing on nets, this workshop covered problem solving, design and production to allow children to practically tackle a challenging mathematical concept.
