Our theme this term is 'The Seaside'

We will be looking at animals at the seaside, exploring what you might do at the seaside and thinking about our own experiences of the seaside. We also have our very exciting visit from the Rock Pool where we can explore some of the marine animals.

Have a look at the stories we are reading this theme:

The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch by Ronda & David Armitage (10.6.19 & 17.6.19)

Commotion In The Ocean by Giles Andreae (24.6.19 & 1.7.19)

Clumsy Crab by Ruth Golloway (8.7.19 & 15.7.19)

Phonics - Read Write Inc

At Holy Rosary we use the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme . Read Write Inc Phonics is a method of teaching reading and writing, which is centred around learning the sounds of the letters (phonics) and then blending them together to read words.  The children also learn to break down words into individual sounds in order to write them.

The children in EYFS are assessed by the RWI manager and are grouped according to their ability.

They work in small groups with teachers and teaching assistants every day to learn to read and write new sounds.

At the end of each half term the children will be assessed again to check they have made progress and will be grouped again.

The sounds are taught in a certain order and with rhymes to match the letters.
