The Equality Act 2010 put in place a number of duties for public bodies, including schools, to ensure that they have due regard to certain ‘protected’ groups

All public bodies and schools must have due regard to:

1. Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
2. Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
3. Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

The 9 Protected Characteristics are:

AGE
DISABLLITY
SEXUAL ORIENTATION
GENDER
SEX
PREGNANCY AND MATERNITY
RACE
RELIGION OR BELIEF
MARRIAGE AND CIVIL PARTNERSHIP

At Holy Rosary RC Primary, we ensure that our children are given opportunities to develop age-appropriate knowledge and understanding through our existing curriculum offer. This enables children to experience and understand these characteristics in context.

We believe that children should be able to recognise themselves and their circumstances so they can see their lived experiences validated and valued.

Amazing People Schools

At Holy Rosary, we are beginning to use a resource called "Amazing People Schools" Click HERE to visit.

This resource supports children in recognising character strengths such as resilience, creativity, teamwork and perseverance and drive their curiosity to learn.

This resource also enables children to see how these people of many faiths and cultures have influenced our lives now.  They also get to explore how these relate to our own faith and cultures.

As a school, we have mapped these inspiration people across our Curriculum to create further links to modern life.
