MFL

Subject Statement of Intent – MFL

At Holy Rosary, the teaching of French aims to foster children’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.  We teach French in a way that is enjoyable and fun, making children aware that French has a structure and that structure differs from one language to the other.  We aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing within a progressive curriculum across KS2.  This is necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts, and lay the foundations for future language learning.

We will ensure that all pupils:

  • Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
  • Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
  • Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
  • Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
