Climate Change at Holy Rosary
Climate Change and Our School’s Responsibility
Climate change is one of the biggest global challenges facing our children’s generation. Rising temperatures, extreme weather and the loss of natural habitats are already having an impact on communities around the world. As a school, we believe it is important that children not only learn about these issues, but also understand the positive steps we can all take to protect our planet.
Why Climate Change Matters to Us
Learning about climate change helps us to:
Understand how human actions affect the environment
Develop respect and care for the world around us
Build the skills and attitudes needed to become responsible global citizens
Take pride in making sustainable choices at home and in school
What Is a Climate Change Plan?
Our Climate Change Plan sets out how our school will reduce its environmental impact and how we will help children learn about sustainability. It ensures that our actions are structured, measurable and meaningful. The plan brings together children, staff, families and our wider community to create a cleaner, greener future.
Why Our School Needs a Climate Change Plan
We are committed to:
Reducing energy use and improving efficiency across the school
Increasing recycling and reducing waste, including single-use plastics
Promoting active travel, such as walking, cycling and scooting to school
Enhancing green spaces, supporting wildlife and improving biodiversity
Teaching climate education through our curriculum in engaging, age-appropriate ways
Involving children in eco-initiatives so they understand their role in helping the planet
How Children Will Be Involved
Children will have opportunities to:
Join eco-clubs and action groups
Take part in recycling, gardening and wildlife projects
Learn about climate change in science, geography and PSHE lessons
Share ideas and lead initiatives to help shape our school’s sustainable future
Our Commitment to a Greener Future
Our school’s Climate Change Plan reflects our belief that small actions, taken together, can create big change. We are proud to be helping our children understand the world they live in and empowering them to make choices that protect and preserve it for future generations.
